Etkinlik, Inner Wheel 222. Bölge geçen dönem başkanı ve “Orange the World” temasıyla kadına karşı şiddete dikkat çekmeyi ve farkındalığı artırmayı amaçlayan ve bunun için bir dizi etkinlik organize eden komitenin başkanı İmren Gürbaşar’ın açılış konuşmasıyla başladı.
Konferansın konuşmacısı olan aktivist ve avukat Mine Atlı, kadına karşı şiddetin ne olduğu, şiddet türleri, Kıbrıs ve dünya genelindeki güncel istatistikler ile toplumsal etkiler hakkında kapsamlı bilgiler aktardı. Atlı, kadına yönelik şiddetin yalnızca bireysel değil, toplumsal ve yapısal bir sorun olduğunu vurgularken; eğitimden hukuka, sosyal politikalardan farkındalık çalışmalarına kadar çok yönlü bir mücadelenin gerekliliğine dikkat çekti. Ayrıca, geçmişten bugüne yapılan yasal düzenlemeler ve mevcut hukuki mekanizmalar hakkında ayrıntılı değerlendirmelerde bulunarak, yasal hakların bilinmesinin ve uygulanmasının önemini bir kez daha hatırlattı.
Konferans, katılımcıların sorularını yönelttiği interaktif bir soru–cevap bölümü ile sona erdi. Konferans, kadına karşı şiddetle mücadelede toplumsal bilinci güçlendirmeyi, dayanışmayı artırmayı ve konunun farklı kesimler tarafından tartışılmasını teşvik etmeyi amaçladı.

Violence-Free Society, Empowered Women
The conference titled “Violence-Free Society, Empowered Women,” jointly organized by the Altınbaş Cyprus University Continuing Education and Research Center and Inner Wheel District 222 North Cyprus, was successfully held on Wednesday, November 26, at the LTL Mehmet Altınbaş Conference Hall. The event began with an opening speech by İmren Gürbaşar, former chair of Inner Wheel District 222 North Cyprus and the head of the committee that organized a series of activities under the “Orange the World” theme to raise awareness and draw attention to violence against women.
The speaker of the conference, activist and lawyer Mine Atlı, provided comprehensive information on what violence against women is, the different forms it takes, current statistics and the societal impacts of this issue. Atlı emphasized that violence against women is not only an individual issue but also a social and structural problem, highlighting the need for a multifaceted struggle—from education and law to social policies and awareness efforts. She also offered detailed assessments of past and current legal regulations and existing legal mechanisms, once again stressing the importance of knowing and implementing legal rights.
The conference concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session during which participants posed their questions. Overall, the event aimed to strengthen public awareness, enhance solidarity, and encourage discussion of the issue across various segments of society in the fight against violence toward women.
